Dinner in the Garden

The main organization here in Charleston, that I chose to give back to is Historic Charleston Foundation. After serving on the board for many years, we are still involved by designing their annual Gala. This year, one of their auction items was a rare opportunity to have dinner in the garden at the Nathaniel Russell House, designed by me! Thank you to Taylor Jordan for the photos.

We have a lovely wrought iron conservatory that we have used at a couple of our events. It makes a gorgeous photo opp for a stunning wedding cake. Or, we have set up a head table in the conservatory inside a tent. Since the weather hasn’t reached peak warm temps, yet, we draped in some velvet fabric which offered such an intimate and cozy environment.

I have been seeing all over design pieces how blues and greens are the new neutrals for this year… We definitely are in agreement on this. The pale blue and green backdrop offers layers and hints of color, but lets the bright and cheery pop of the flowers to shine.

Also, we love a simple paired down and tailored bar. Just have all the necessities for guests to be able to help themselves if you forgo a bartender.

The Nathaniel Russell house is a very rare treasure and study in historic preservation. We are so lucky to have it as part of HCF, and it’s not typically available for events or parties. It’s always been one of my favorite homes in Charleston.

A beautiful evening to celebrate in one of the most historic gardens in Charleston!
