Tara’s Tidbits, September 17th, 2010

As we gear up for our Darkness to Light Gala (November 18th)…it is stories like the one below that make it even more special for us. One night over drinks, Del Dell, as we call her, was talking about her painting…I wanted to see and asked if she would be interested in donating a piece to darkness to light..
I found her work meaningful, inspirational and beautiful. It comes right from her heart and you can see it in each piece.
After talking, she shared this story and now we will even incorporate her series into our invitation design. I am very excited about that. I am glad that in my work that we can even highlight those who should be.
“These paintings represent a very recent storm in my life. I had suffered three massive losses in my life all within a 13 month period. The Lord gave me the idea to paint a storm scene without realizing that I was in one until I started painting them. As I worked on them and the hours passed, I had no idea why I was painting them or that they would be used to hopefully help someone else. I trusted that God had a purpose for me painting them. While in the mountains about a month ago, Tara came to look at the paintings and wanted to use them for the Darkness to Light party. Each time I worked on them, I felt a bit more peace. The title of the pieces is “The Storm, Beginning to a new Beginning”. What came out of it was not only healing but the realization, once again, that we are never alone in our storms; know matter how dark it may seem hope can abound even in the dark.”

Attention:  I have quit drinking tap water!  It killed my children’s goldfish within two hours.

well, I started weight watchers monday! I plane on doing it for 2 weeks (14 days!).  I have to finally loose those 5 pounds that never left after last year’s baby. I tried this method before and I have to say, I believe in it and it works. They should hire me to be a spokes person for them! ha!
I had a busy day at the office so will not be able to say much, believe it or not, have to work over here!
But, thought I would share some photos from my iphone…things I liked. Maybe they will motivate you to do something new at your house or office.

Such a pretty day today! It is September and I am remembering a wedding we did a few years ago (3 to be exact) where I really for the first time questioned my reasoning for doing this job (wedding designer, if you didn’t know!)!

I had just had my first baby, he was only about 6 weeks old and it rained the entire week prior to wedding day AND poured on the wedding day..
It was tuff…between 2 days of no sleep due to wedding work, new baby and feeding….wow, it was hard.
But, when you see the pictures, I love that my bride and groom were happy and to this day, are happy!  That is why is still come to work every day!
Happy Anniversary Sallie Gray and Jason Clayton! Memories……

Easter Wedding

I wanted to finally share images from a small second wedding we did over Easter weekend this year at the William Aiken HouseGayle Brooker was on hand to shoot all of the details for us.

We love that the bride took the walk alone to meet her groom. She had a small group of guests, so it was fun to set up a different ceremony site- one that we did for a photo shoot many years ago.

The bride wanted to incorporate trees into the decor- each table was named after a variety found in South Carolina. We didn’t want it to seem to dark and fallish, so we brought in brighter shades of green to offset the brown, and used other natural spring elements like grass.

Patrick Properties chef Nico Romo used only seasonal ingredients for their menu. Most of the guests were from New York and Virginia, so South Carolina quail was a special treat.

The weather was perfect for a lounge on the lawn with our Easter colors; the bar was housed under a custom tent with barstools that offered guests a break from the dance floor; the simple and sophisticated dining room

The children had their own table out on the veranda with fun wrought iron garden chairs; we did baskets that were delivered to each hotel room early Easter morning with beautiful cookies, candies, and a Sunday Times for the adults.

All Things Design

I have decided this weekend that I really don’t like bubble gum pink. Funny. lavender has been growing more and more on me lately and I can remember as a child always rearranging my bedroom on a weekly basis..and HAVING to paint it lavender!  I was probably in 6th or 7th grade.
I also remember my favorite 8th outfit being lavender chino shorts with a white shirt that had ESPIRT written in lavender with my matching lavender tretorns.
Good grief. How embarrassing.

We all have those women we are in awe of…and one of the most admirable women ever, to me, is Carolina Herrera. I never tire of her endless style.
She was married in September, in the year I was born (1968).
I especially love the fashion of the 70’s and the photography of her then…so I share some inspirational photos….really, just something to be jealous of….

I hate that I don’t have my glasses on, but otherwise we are happy about the spread. Even the office needs to be ready to entertain…seats for our guests, tea for our clients, and an atmosphere to soothe. Everyone always needs to be comfortable.
Let us know what you think!
