At Home With Tara

Today, I’m welcoming you all into my home in Charleston, South Carolina. We were so lucky to be on higher ground and weren’t affected by the terrible flooding that so many others are facing. Since the house is currently on the market, I thought I would share some of my favorite shots from the Inspired By This featured that our friend Corbin Gurkin shot a couple of years ago.

I loved working with interior designer, Angie Hranowsky who helped me bring the project together. Most of the rooms contain collaborative pieces gathered from some of our favorite antique stores, reworked family piece, and even sourced from some of my wedding design vendors. The settee in the formal sitting room was a family antique that we had recovered in two opposing but complimentary fabrics.

I am a huge fan of artist Jill Hooper, so I loved finding spots to hang her works. I’m also a “gatherer” of coffee table design books, so they are stacked everywhere in the house! We tried to use as many of the Historic Charleston paint colors as possible- you can see more of the palette offered here.

This is the room that we live in- the open kitchen, family room, and a dining nook- all with windows and french doors that open up into the garden.

I wanted a pop of color to brighten up the mostly neutral space, especially with as much natural light as we get in this nook. After having some of  the “Lane” chairs that I designed for events painted for one of our weddings, they were a perfect fit for the table.

The master bedroom color palette is full of deep natural wood tones and warm metallic hues.  The large wool hook rug from West Elm was a budget find that anchors the space.

Over the mantle in my dressing room was the perfect spot for my collection of nudes. The wall color, Melted Ice Cream, by Benjamin Moore offers the perfect backdrop without being another “white”.

Placing the dressing table in front of the large window allows amazing natural light for getting ready or writing notes.

The split level master bath has 3 elevated spaces. The upper section is my vanity and sink and claw foot tub area. The closet doors are asian panels found at a vintage importer in New York. As you head down to the walk in shower and second sink vanity area there is a separate staircase taking you the laundry area.
