I was fortunate to be involved with a wonderful fundraiser yesterday at the Daniel Island Club – Wine, Women and Shoes – benefitting the Florence Crittendon Programs of South Carolina.  Wine, women and shoes are three of my favorite things and I can’t think of a better way to support the Florence Crittendon Programs which provide young, at-risk pregnant and parenting women comprehensive services to help them become self-sufficient and responsible mothers.

To quote event founder, Elaine Honig, “The event is based on what we call ‘the fine art of wine and shoe pairings – think comparing a Sauvignon Blanc to a silver strappy sandal and a Cabernet to a classic black pump.  We speak the language of Barolo AND Manolo!”  WW&S has helped net $15 million for various women’s and family- related causes that host this annual fundraiser, which began in Napa Valley.

Here’s a post-party look at my shoe pick – killer Prada sandals in our signature “Soiree” Orange!

Fabulous, no?!

We spent a whirlwind weekend in San Antonio working on a lovely wedding (for a lovely couple).  Thought you might enjoy a few behind-the-scenes “before and after” snapshots.  Amazing flowers!

Orange Votives

These lovely little votives add sparkle and color to a casual setting – perfect for upcoming fall and holiday suppers.  I even think they’d be fun for Halloween!  Place them on a table interspersed among short, tight arrangements of single flowers, or line them along a mantle piece.

Begin with 6-12 small oranges, taking care that they are uniform in size with pretty, sturdy skins.

Carve out the flesh of the fruit with a small paring knife.  (Reserve the fruit for a quick ambrosia dessert, or use it for fresh squeezed orange juice!)

Insert simple votive candles (in clear glass holders) that are proportional in size and enjoy a warm glow!
