This is a great way to kick off a week! Today we are sharing part two our gold and plum party held at a ballroom in downtown Charleston, SC. As you can see the space overlooks the Charleston Harbor, so we had to take advantage of that and create lounge seating for guests to enjoy the amazing view.

Since the couple were from Charleston, we used local street names for the table names. Tables dressed in gold from the suede linens, to the “tree” centerpieces welcomed guests for dinner. Each guest was gifted a box of macaroons in the coordinating wedding colors.

The amazing Jim Smeal knocked it out of the park with this cake! Adorned with designs in metallic gold and handmade flowers, real peonies separated the alternating round and square layers which smelled divine!

The dining room by candlelight. We carpeted and draped the expansive room which gave it the most cozy atmosphere. The girls in the office and I have always talked about the photos from this wedding just didn’t do it justice. The way the room glowed and felt that evening was one that will always stick out in doing over 600+ weddings!

Keeping guests comfortable and taking care of them is always important to me and is something I feel Soiree is known for… We had large baskets of flip flops and pashminas for guests dancing or enjoying the evening out overlooking the water.

Enormous drum shades covered in the perfect plum satin provided the ambient lighting we like to create at our events. Since being inside a building where the footprint already existed, we had to squeeze a cocktail hour, seated dinner and reception for 300+ AND a secret to be revealed later after party. We weren’t able to do dinner and dancing in separate rooms as we typically, so this was the solution to our space problems!

The Bride, whose nickname is “Lawdy” is a big fan of local Firefly sweet tea vodka. So, the perfect signature cocktail was born- Firefly over ice w/ a squeeze of lemon- the Lawdy Toddie!

As a focal point in the space, the expansive bar we built worked for cocktail hour before dinner as well as for the reception after dinner, and the secret late night after party. And provided a great hangout spot for guests taking a break and refreshing their cocktail…

We’ve all seen the sparkler send off (it still rocks in photos!), but we always try to do something to punch it up a bit… Custom metallic gold logo printed matchbooks gave guests a little something to toss in the purse or pockets at the end of the evening..

Tara Guerard Soiree by Liz Banfield

So excited to share the details from one of my very favorite weddings (and couples) ever. This sweet bride lives in Oklahoma City and her fabulous mother owns local sophisticated gift shop, Bebes. We have since done two of her close friends’ weddings, so luckily I still get to have her in my wedding world! Her amazing Carolina Herrera branchy ballgown was truly breathtaking.

The ceremony was held at the French Huguenot Church in downtown Charleston, SC. Guerards were some of the first French Huguenots in Charleston, so I love being at this church for many reasons. The woodwork and architectural details are breathtaking.

The brides’ esthetic was very eclectic. She notes Tony Duquette as a huge inspiration so we were able to have a lot of fun with designing. This was the epiotomy of a fall fete, so we had so many elements we wanted to incorporate. Here, oranges and kumquats sprinkled with seeded eucalyptus anchored the candlelit alter. Huge blooming branches gave height to the view.

I mean, this bouquet! Full of berzillia berries, dinner plate dahlias, lambs ear, garden roses, and ranunculus in the loveliest color palette.

Boutonierres varied between seeded eucalyptus, berzillia berries, and a choice for the groom between a coral charm peony and dahlia bloom all supported by a lambs ear leaf and tied with a grosgrain ribbon.

Accordian fold save the dates by Lettered Olive, kicked off the birds and branches theme and complimented the vivid color palette.

The Welcome gift bags were loaded with yummy locally made treats, Charleston Magazines, and a folder containing all of the pertinent information and details for the weekend all labeled with custom tags from Lettered Olive.

So many personal and family touches were woven throughout the wedding. Like these letterpress coasters (by Lettered Olive) were printed with the groom’s grandmother’s Russian Tea recipe which was also served at the bar throughout the evening.

The bride’s grandmother has famous bread and butter pickles, so batches were made, jarred and tagged as wedding favors.

The reception took place at Drayton Hall Plantation right outside of Charleston. An al fresco cocktail hour on the front lawn kicked off the evening.

Lounge seating was set up on the porch overlooking the lawn so guests could experience the space to it’s fullest. I love the feel of the modern pieces against the classic space.

Dinner seating cards were hand calligraphied on die cut bird cards. We hung these from a garden umbrella covered in branches as if they were in a tree!

Love this dining room- the head table was placed inside a wrought iron observatory that created a special intimate space but was still open for interaction with all of the guests. We also tied pashminas to all of the ladies’ chairs to accommodate for the falling temps that evening.

The lush centerpiece on the head table was overflowing from a log; a mixture of candles in different heights and containers add dimension and the ikat fabric runners were from fabric that both the bride and I curated for the wedding.

Golden branches were woven throughout the tent ceiling and over the observatory as if everyone was dining in an enchanted forest.

The brides flowing column reception dress made for graceful dancing. A birdcage collected from the bride’s mother hung full of candles over the dancefloor.

The bird and branch wedding cake by Jim Smeal was displayed in a wrought iron vintage birdcage.

Jim Smeal crafted a birds nest cake topper complete with “berries” and tiny birds.

The glam lounge was full of velvet and ikat fabrics and pillows in an array of the bright colors. The main reception bar was an ultra luxe focal point for the evening.

I have loved going back through our old photo files and finding wedding details perfect for sharing on these “flashback fridays”. Thank you to Liz Banfield for resurrecting may of these files for us. This fall affair at the William Aiken House pulled deep red and oranges together for a vibrantly hued party with modern flair.

Bridesmaids bouquets are full of dahlias, orchids, and tulips in all the right colors.  They provide just the right pop against dark dresses.

Of course we have to have matching yarmulkes for the ceremony! Natural woven baskets were set up as guests arrived for a self serve ceremony program and yarmulke display.

The chuppa was draped in rich velvet fabric and adorned with stems of orchids for a ceremony in the round. The sunshine through the clear top tent was the perfect addition to the cheerful color palette.

A palette cleansing sorbet was served in red glass votives after cocktail hour as guests made their way to dinner.

A sunny outdoor lounge covered in all of the custom colored velvet made a cozy and comfy spot for guests to enjoy cocktail hour.

Hand written dinner escort cards were held in place in trays of red lentils (which when dry are actually orange). Such a simple design element but guests gushed over this.

Dinner tables along the upper piazza made for sunset views during dinner.  The tabletop decor was another way we brought in the couple’s modern affinity. The bold square china with matching square printed menus were accented by alternating monofloral and monochromatic centerpieces.

The modern and simple Jim Smeal cake let the display made entirely out of flowers be the standout (I love the high gloss finish as well!)

Chocolate truffles wrapped in such pretty packaging were the sweetest of favors for the guests.
