We love revisiting some of our past weddings… Today, pretty pastels and pattern play were the name of the design game here, with photos so pretty from Corbin Gurkin.  Bridesmaids dresses in the lovliest shade of not quite lavender and not quite violet from Jenny Yoo at Bella Bridesmaid.

The bride wore a Monique Lhullier gown and elegant flats from Dolce and Gabbana.

Our beautiful bride carried a cascade of phalenopsis orchids, roses, and fern fronds. We were overjoyed when we found the perfect blue and white bird themed fabric at fabric.com, we used it as a photo wall back drop, to make pillows, and cover the bar.

The blue and white papers designed by Lettered Olive made a statement with colored stock, pattern, die cut shapes, and letterpressed motifs.  Our wedding welcome bags were filled with local cheese biscuits, handmade chocolate, and wine all in a custom Charleston map tote featuring all of the weekend locations noted.

The ceremony was held at one of my truly favorite local churches, the French Huguenot Church.

After the ceremony, guests tossed rose petals on the couple exiting the church, all to the tune of a local gospel choir.

Playing off of the cascading orchid bridal bouquet, the bridesmaids carried a fluffy and colorful mix of roses, orchids, and lilacs.

I always advise my clients when developing our timelines, to allow themselves to steal away some private time with the photographer, in order to capture images like these.

Long tables were dressed in custom linens with patterned toppers, while the smaller squares were dressed in all blue and white. I love that our bride let us play with all of these patterns and colors!

The after dinner lounge had a glamorous and feminine feel, and lots of thoughtful touches- one of my favorites was the phone charging station designed with the wedding hashtag signage. Oh, and the sliders on pretzel rolls by PPHG, were a HUGE hit!

After a quick change and pretty sparkler send off, the couple departed by a vintage Rolls Royce ready to “Skip Down the Aisle” Together…

Tara Guerard Soiree by Squire Fox

We’re sharing from the archives today!  Back when Charleston Magazine Editor, Darcy Shankland married her beau, we hopped right in to help her design an intimate, fun, and romantic fall party full of candlelight and seasonal decor.  The Cotton Dock at Boone Hall Plantation provided the perfect rustic setting (the same venue for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ wedding) and the large hearth with a roaring fire couldn’t make for a better backdrop. We wrapped the beams in trees and branches full of leaves painted golds and reds, and hung out candle chandelier which helps drench the room in a glow. Benches for a small ceremony in the round were easy to relocate and open up the room for the reception.

We adopted the burgundy dahlia as a main focal point throughout the wedding design. The Bride’s single bloom bouquet was a standout against her ivory silk gown.

A spiced cranberry cocktail served in stemless glasses and adorned with the dahlia tags were offered to guests at the end of the ceremony.

Jim Smeal‘s knock down amazing ruffled dahlia cake was seriously almost too awesome to cut. Miniature cranberry and glazed raspberry pies were displayed as well for a beautiful bounty of sweets!

In lieu of ceremony programs, mirrors framing the fireplace were hand written with the pertinent people and information.

Long tables full of burlap wrapped glass candle cylinders and single stemmed vases with burgundy dahlias made for luxurious centerpieces on a budget! We tied with hemp twine little dahlia tags to the candle cylinders for extra color and detail.

In order to give the bride a grand entrance to the ceremony, swaths of sheer fabric in gold and burgundy were strategically hung so that we could position her and open as needed.  Thank you to Squire Fox for all of the beautiful photos.

So even though this luxurious fall wedding took place 8 years ago, it’s still one of my favorites so I love resharing with you on this wedding Wednesday. The couple were so fun, the mother of the bride owns a fabulous interior and gift store in Oklahoma, Bebe’s, and it was at one of my all time favorite venues, Drayton Hall.  Birds, branches, patterns, and rich colors round out the design theme for our bride who used Tony Duquette’s interior designs as her inspiration.  Her amazing dress by Carolina Herrera couldn’t have been more perfect with pattern that looked almost like branches or feathers..Our photographer was Liz Banfield.

We knew we would be using several vintage bird cages in the reception design, so Lettered Olive incorporated one into the save the dates. A bird on a branch “monogram” was also designed to be used throughout other printed wedding items such as the guest bag labels and welcome packet.

2971_10a-lizbanfieldThe bride and groom chose to do a private “first sight” moment at a Charleston park around the corner from the French Huguenot Church were the wedding was held.

We custom pleated silk ribbons to adorn the bridal bouquet from a photo the bride had saved from Martha Stewart Weddings many years before. Groomsmen boutonierres were made from berzillia berries and seeded eucalyptus, while the groom received a single coral charm peony bloom. Bridesmaids had a muted bouquet which played so prettily off of their chocolate brown silk taffeta dresses.

The groom’s grandmother’s Russian spiced tea recipe was printed on letterpressed coasters guests received at the bar, and the bride’s mother’s Bread and Butter pickles were made and packaged for guests’ favors.

Downtown Charleston’s French Huguenot Church provided the ceremony venue. Blossoming branches and glass vases full of oranges, kumquats, and seeded eucalyptus brightened up the candlelit alter. I loved the sweet and simple pew markers our flower team did, by lining the entire aisle with a dahlia bloom tied with the orange and white striped grosgrain ribbon we used throughout the wedding.

After the ceremony, guests were greeted at Drayton Hall plantation by an alfresco cocktail hour on the front lawn.

Guests were able to experience the historic property in it’s fullest by lounging on the front portico and wandering throughout the house. Unexpected takes on cocktail and app favorites included a pomegranate martini we called the “Blushing Bride’, and bite sized grilled pimento cheese sandwiches.

Die cut birds hung from branches inside the cocktail hour umbrellas served as the dinner escort cards.

The uber cozy dinner tent had lots of glam touches, like ikat table runners, golden branches with twinkle lights, and pashminas in the wedding colors tied to each of the ladies’ seats in case they needed extra warmth. The head table was housed in an iron garden conservatory, and a birch log was hollowed out for the centerpiece.

The after dinner lounge housed eclectic furnishings and a vintage birdcage we filled with candles to serve as a chandelier over the dance floor.

Being in the middle of field requires that potty trailers are brought in. It’s hard to think about having potty trailers at a black tie glam wedding, so of course we have to deck them out so they fit the bill. Painted walls and unique design pieces kept the trailer looking as fab as the rest of the reception tent.

The gorgeous Jim Smeal wedding cake complete with a handmade nest topper, and birds perched throughout was housed in a vintage standing birdcage. The pale peach icing was so lovely with the setting.

A fabulous Jim Smeal dessert station also gave guests sweets to nosh on while dancing complete with mini pies, and woodland cakes topped with edible meringue mushrooms!
