Charleston is experiencing quite the boom thanks to all of the kudos from magazines like Travel + Leisure and Conde Nast. We have had many charming hotels, inns, and B&B’s over the years and people have their favorites. But, there are some new or newish spots beginning to make their mark in the city. We have over the years had many brides interested in renting out entire hotels for their guests and then to also host many of their weekend events and it hasn’t quite been a reality just yet until the new rennovated Restoration Hotel opens this fall. It’s also a fabulous option for bachelorette parties, or places for all of the wedding party and family to stay during the wedding weekend.  They are rennovating, redecorating, and adding a ton of space.

They are adding a Rooftop restaurant “The Watch” with terrace- this will include private dining space inside and out for events (for about 50 guests), a rooftop bar “The Observatory”, Spa treatment rooms with nail spa, a relaxation pool, and an in house library with cozy fireplace that will have a fully staffed librarian and Assouline book collection. There are also 2 large suites with outdoor space where the chef can prepare a private dinner for you and guests (about 30 guests).  This is the view from the current Terrace which is also available for parties (for 100+ ppl).

I love the emphasis on local artisans as well.. All of the outdoor garden space is being designed by famed landscape architect, Sheila Wertimer, the interior will feature local landscapes by photographer Gately Williams, and the new coffee shop addition will feature treats by local Glazed Donuts, Cupcake Down South, Macaroon Boutique, and yummy Callie’s Biscuits.

I can see bringing in a lovely long table and beautiful lighting  for a bridal shower, bridal luncheon, or smaller rehearsal dinner in this quaint little semi private garden space.

There is a gracious mix of original and modern in the space and this will continue to be emphasized in the rennovation. Lots of exposed brick where you can see original staircase footprints, amazing old wood floors and beams some dating back to the 1800’s. There will be room options for all scenarios- 2/3 bedroom suites with kitchenettes for groups and families, chic loft spaces for friends or couples, all getting a fresh new fluff and many with private outdoor space. Breakfast is delivered every day in a picnic basket (which you can also order to go for a lowcountry excursion), and Martone bikes will be available for exploring downtown Charleston.

Here in Charleston we have a multitude of historic venues and locations for weddings and events. From our Churches some of which are hundreds of years old, to Plantation sites, to grand old homes or museums, there are so many locales that offer fantastic backdrops for our couples and their photographers. One of of the most lovely are the grounds and gardens at Middleton Place. This blue and white fete was celebrated there, with a ceremony at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in downtown Charleston covered in Italian frescos, which couldn’t have been more perfect for our Italian bride. I am so happy that I met Miss Marcy Blum. Author, Eventista, and a fixture on the speaker circuit, she has planned plenty of celeb weddings and events worldwide. I always look forward to grabbing a drink (or several) with her when I’m in New York. She is such a fun plus one for industry events and a great sounding board for talking through career questions.  And, I mean, she calls me Scarlett!  Here she answers our Tete-a-Tete questions.
