So proud of the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team!  In honor of the big win, I pulled a wedding out of the archives to share today. Our bride, Kate Markgraf played on the US Womens’ World Cup team for 3 years (they were the champions in 1999), played in the Olympics three times, and played on the first professional Women’s soccer club in the U.S, where she earned a Defender of the Year title. Impressive, right?  We worked with Kate and Chris on their wedding in October 2003 here in Charleston.  Liz Banfield shot this soiree for us.

We are noticing more and more couples asking for a playful element at their reception and bringing in some kind of game. Oversized Jenga (Blake and Ryan had one), Croquet, Golf, and the ever popular Cornhole.  We’d love to hear more about what others are seeing out there, or having at their weddings.

This cornhole set is made locally here in Charleston is more like a piece of work. Perfect for a wedding- something you can use on the big day and then keep forever afterwards. We like to make custom beanbags or pain custom sets for our clients, but with these we don’t have to!

I think there is something so special about couples who honor their anniversaries with traditional gifts, or their version the traditions.

Here are some of our ideas for years 1-5 on how to honor these traditions in new and fun ways.

1st Anniversary- Paper. How about plane tickets to a favorite destination (or delayed honeymoon spot) or concert tickets to a favorite musician?  You can’t go wrong with something memorable from your wedding framed. Or, make it official and get beautiful letterpress gift tags or enclosure cards with your new last name or monogram from Taigan’s Lettered Olive Collection.

2nd Anniversary- Cotton. A new set of luxury sheets or towels. We love these from Matouk at Neiman Marcus (and they are on sale!). Or something simple like the Lewis Cocktail Bag and Mallet for your home bar. Even matching monogramed bath robes made from Turkish “cotton” would be so nice!

3rd Anniversary- Leather.  I love love love these leather and maple Iphone cases from Grovemade.

4th Anniversary- Flowers. Maybe you have a big landscaping project at a new home that you’ve been putting off that you could invest in (and do together). Try something different and adopt an olive tree!  You can each enjoy the oils that will come over the years, or use for entertaining together! Nudo Adopt selects ones in Italy for you. Or, it would be lovely to receive a bottle of your favorite perfume (there are many ways to interpret each item).

5th Anniversary- Wood. Concave Cutting Boards are made here in Charleston, and have a unique design that allow the meat to rest in their own juices so they don’t dry out- genius! I know someone who got their husband a chord of firewood for a November anniversary.
