Lauren Santo Domingo, founder of Moda Operandi, VOGUE Contributor and of course one of our favorite socialites, was married to Andres Santo Domingo in Cartagena Colombia in 2008 in what VOGUE called the “Wedding of the Year.” We couldn’t agree more!

This Marchesa dress isn’t custom, but it sure looks that way with a silk taffeta train and a beaded lace back, reminiscent of Lauren’s dress above.  The train even detaches for beautiful reception style.

We’re all about dresses that can keep up with your signature dance moves at the reception, and it seems like Lauren is with us on that one. Her dress detached (like the one above) for a feathery frock that looks ready to party!

For a similar style, why not opt for this little number that has festive feathers in more of a taupe and silver hue that you could wear to parties for years to come. It’s on sale now so be sure to snatch yours up before they’re gone.

Lauren’s bridesmaids looked absolutely stunning in a range of sherbet-colored gowns that seem like they’re straight out of a fairy tale. We love the idea of giving your bridesmaids a color palette and letting them choose their dresses, or giving them a few different styles to choose from. It feels modern, yet completely sophisticated and classic.

To get this bridesmaid look we chose dresses from Lauren herself… all from her site Moda Operandi which sells designer clothes straight from the runway. From left to right are: ROSIE ASSOULIN Tea Length Spaghetti Strap Dress $2,995; ZAC POSEN Pleat-Back Duchesse-Satin Gown $7,990; PREEN Novak Dress $1,370; ROSIE ASSOULIN Cross-Front Silk-Crepe Gown $3,695; ELLERY M’O Exclusive: Violet Beauregard Silk-Organza Dress $2,350

blktux

We are quite used to renting tabletop pieces and furniture for the weddings that we plan here at Soirée, but renting wedding gowns and designer tuxes is an interesting new trend that seems to be gaining momentum.

For example, THE BLK TUX was founded in 2013 by two best friends who found it frustrating to find the proper tuxes for one of their weddings. They parter with high-end suit makers to create their custom styles and by taking out the middleman, they are able to keep their prices low. As well as weddings, their suits could also be worn to galas, work functions, and charity events.

Borrowing Magnolia was launched this year and is a website that allows brides to try on three previously worn dresses at home with the option to rent them for their wedding or purchase them at a discounted rate. The Jenny Packham dress above retails for around $6000 but you can rent it for $1800 – you have to decide if you’re okay not being able to pass it down to your children, but its nice to have the option to wear your favorite dress for a little less damage to your wallet. What do you think? Would you try this trend?!

As you may know, the white wedding dress trend became popular after Queen Victoria wore a white gown for her wedding to Prince Albert in the United Kingdom 1840. Before that time, women generally wore their nicest dress, often in their favorite color. It’s not surprising then that in the past few years women have started branching out again, this time opting for beautiful shades of pale pink, also possibly inspired by celebrities (Anne Hathaway, Reese Witherspoon, and Jessica Biel, all wore this romantic hue). Here are Soirée, we are fully in favor and we’ve rounded up some of our favorites here to get your wheels spinning.

The Marchesa number above is from the Spring 2015 collection and features a lace embellished corset and off the shoulder silk chiffon. We’re in love!

A beaded tulle trumpet dress comes in a beautiful blush color as part of Monique Lhuillier’s Fall 2014 collection. Such a romantic look.

With such a classic silhouette, this dress in Jenny Packham’s Spring 2014 collection could be worn for any occasion. But of course we love the idea of wearing it as a wedding gown…

Last but not least in the palest of pinks is this fabulous frock from Christos Spring 2015 collection. This is the perfect option for a bride who wants to try something a little out of the box, but doesn’t want to go too far.

What do you think? Would you try this trend? *All photos from Brides.com
