As we gear up for our Darkness to Light Gala (November 18th)…it is stories like the one below that make it even more special for us. One night over drinks, Del Dell, as we call her, was talking about her painting…I wanted to see and asked if she would be interested in donating a piece to darkness to light..
I found her work meaningful, inspirational and beautiful. It comes right from her heart and you can see it in each piece.
After talking, she shared this story and now we will even incorporate her series into our invitation design. I am very excited about that. I am glad that in my work that we can even highlight those who should be.
“These paintings represent a very recent storm in my life. I had suffered three massive losses in my life all within a 13 month period. The Lord gave me the idea to paint a storm scene without realizing that I was in one until I started painting them. As I worked on them and the hours passed, I had no idea why I was painting them or that they would be used to hopefully help someone else. I trusted that God had a purpose for me painting them. While in the mountains about a month ago, Tara came to look at the paintings and wanted to use them for the Darkness to Light party. Each time I worked on them, I felt a bit more peace. The title of the pieces is “The Storm, Beginning to a new Beginning”. What came out of it was not only healing but the realization, once again, that we are never alone in our storms; know matter how dark it may seem hope can abound even in the dark.”

Attention:  I have quit drinking tap water!  It killed my children’s goldfish within two hours.

well, I started weight watchers monday! I plane on doing it for 2 weeks (14 days!).  I have to finally loose those 5 pounds that never left after last year’s baby. I tried this method before and I have to say, I believe in it and it works. They should hire me to be a spokes person for them! ha!
I had a busy day at the office so will not be able to say much, believe it or not, have to work over here!
But, thought I would share some photos from my iphone…things I liked. Maybe they will motivate you to do something new at your house or office.

September 14th, 2010

Such a pretty day today! It is September and I am remembering a wedding we did a few years ago (3 to be exact) where I really for the first time questioned my reasoning for doing this job (wedding designer, if you didn’t know!)!

I had just had my first baby, he was only about 6 weeks old and it rained the entire week prior to wedding day AND poured on the wedding day..
It was tuff…between 2 days of no sleep due to wedding work, new baby and feeding….wow, it was hard.
But, when you see the pictures, I love that my bride and groom were happy and to this day, are happy!  That is why is still come to work every day!
Happy Anniversary Sallie Gray and Jason Clayton! Memories……

Easter Wedding

I wanted to finally share images from a small second wedding we did over Easter weekend this year at the William Aiken HouseGayle Brooker was on hand to shoot all of the details for us.

nagle-1
We love that the bride took the walk alone to meet her groom. She had a small group of guests, so it was fun to set up a different ceremony site- one that we did for a photo shoot many years ago.

nagle-2
The bride wanted to incorporate trees into the decor- each table was named after a variety found in South Carolina. We didn’t want it to seem to dark and fallish, so we brought in brighter shades of green to offset the brown, and used other natural spring elements like grass.

nagle-3
Patrick Properties chef Nico Romo used only seasonal ingredients for their menu. Most of the guests were from New York and Virginia, so South Carolina quail was a special treat.

nagle-4
The weather was perfect for a lounge on the lawn with our Easter colors; the bar was housed under a custom tent with barstools that offered guests a break from the dance floor; the simple and sophisticated dining room

nagle5
The children had their own table out on the veranda with fun wrought iron garden chairs; we did baskets that were delivered to each hotel room early Easter morning with beautiful cookies, candies, and a Sunday Times for the adults.

Tara’s Tidbits- September 13th, 2010

All Things Design

I have decided this weekend that I really don’t like bubble gum pink. Funny. lavender has been growing more and more on me lately and I can remember as a child always rearranging my bedroom on a weekly basis..and HAVING to paint it lavender!  I was probably in 6th or 7th grade.
I also remember my favorite 8th outfit being lavender chino shorts with a white shirt that had ESPIRT written in lavender with my matching lavender tretorns.
Good grief. How embarrassing.

We all have those women we are in awe of…and one of the most admirable women ever, to me, is Carolina Herrera. I never tire of her endless style.
She was married in September, in the year I was born (1968).
I especially love the fashion of the 70’s and the photography of her then…so I share some inspirational photos….really, just something to be jealous of….

Entertaining

I hate that I don’t have my glasses on, but otherwise we are happy about the spread. Even the office needs to be ready to entertain…seats for our guests, tea for our clients, and an atmosphere to soothe. Everyone always needs to be comfortable.
Let us know what you think!

Blogs, blogs… I swore I was never going to do this. I have to be honest that I do not have the time to read, write or study blogs so I would never consider my self a “blogger”! Not to mention that I failed English…basically through high school and college! So before I begin, know that I love to write fragments….ok?

I have been asked to write my thoughts, day to day events, what I am doing, what I like, read, love,  do, etc….My first inclination is who in the world gives a dang what I think…and seriously, I know that most don’t and cant say I blame them, but I will give it a whirl. I welcome your comments and it will not hurt my feelings if you all say “enough already!”

So for my VERY first true posting, I will give you the scoop about what is happening!
At the moment I am sitting at a little desk out in the middle of the office with the other girls because we had a leak in the ceiling of my office and it actually fell through- my “boys” (which I refer to often, my production guys) are building a brand new ceiling for me in bead board..weee!!..sooo happy to have an excuse to get ride of popcorn ceiling. As you will discover,  I am eternally optimistic!

I also just got a new cell phone…my 18 month old poured his sippy cup filled with milk in my purse (my REALLY NICE PURSE!) and of course, the only thing ruined was my iphone ! BUT, the new g4 is pretty nice.

Things I am Loving Today…

I have to do an example flower piece for a client…we are setting a table for her review in the morning…

Wishing I had time to read my current book on my bed side table, “The Lacuna”, by Barbara Kingsolver  -half way through, but I like it.

Getting excited about Fall…the colors, the change in season..it is still so very hot here in the south! (and who came up with the rule “no linen after labor day!”) I would like to erase that rule!…it is hotter this week than some days in august! Speaking of, I still wear white jeans, I read somewhere it was ok so I am running with it.:)

I had a meeting yesterday with our book publisher and he was thrilled to say that our first book is still selling!! I even have brides still love and bring photos in so I will share some old ideas from “Southern Weddings” by Tara Guerard that could be new to someone else.

bouquet

We embroidered a custom monogram on the bride’s bouquet ribbon and it’s fun to see that we still do often today

cookies1

Cookies never go out of style…

napkins

Another favorite we still do today, embroidered cocktail napkins.

seatingcards

Coffee beans, although a common household item make for great details…

seats2

Our clients continue to want interesting ceremony seating, like these seagrass ottomans for a beach front ceremony from many years ago…

I do get up early most days to exercise..mostly run but also sometimes a class or two. For the past 6 months I have been nurturing a foot injury (plantar fasciitis, in both feet!) but so happy to report that ran over 5 miles this am and I can walk without pain. YAY! So far.

Antonia van der Meer…….one lady that I admire so much! And consider a good friend.

And lastly for my first day, photos that inspire me.

I saw this dress in a window in Paris over fifteen years ago, and still love it!

Just a little sneak peek from our June rehearsal dinner… can’t wait to have wedding photos for you soon!

pinson-party-1

the colors were fresh crisp green and cobalt, which were so fun and unexpected for this time of year, but worked!  The Groom is an avid photographer and in law school, so Ashley Bakery combined those two personalities into one cake!  The Groom’s grandfather hand needlepointed monogrammed kneelers for their ceremony.

pinson-party-2

The menus and place cards were combined into a fun piece called Cootie Catchers (you know the game that tells you who you will marry, where you will live, etc. from your school days)… they were a huge hit- not so easy on the design/layout end but loved the final result. Photos from Doug DeMark Photography.

How About?

Here are all of the new neats and treats we’re loving for the upcoming fall wedding season:

“Girls Gone Mild” at their bachelorette parties- we had a bride recently who went to a local pet shelter to play with the animals, then went to a dance lesson with her girls, and finished the evening at a cooking class where they dined on the meal they prepared afterwards… love it!

A “Beer Bar” rehearsal dinner…great bubbles, wine tastings, and speciality cocktails have been long time staples at weddings. Why not have fun and mix it up at the casual party the night before and select several of your favorite Local or Craft Brews and offer a sampling to guests. Here are some suggestions from New York Weddings. You can of course have fun with custom labels!

Let the groomsmen have a personality… If bridesmaids get to pick dresses in varying colors or necklines, why not the groomsmen?  Especially when you can get these amazing bow ties from Forage via The Curiosity Shop.

Insider Trading

I’m so excited for the new Wall Street movie to come out (October 24th), as the first is one of my all time favorites!  This recent article from Conde Nast Traveler breaks it down by what defined the persona of in the new Wall Streeters then and now…
