We loved seeing our “Happy Hour” feature in this months’ Better Homes and Gardens issue (on newsstands now). Our tips for throwing a cocktail party are revealed. We had a blast shooting this in my garden! And, those adorable bar accoutrements are available through Lettered Olive.

Being personal fans of her clothing, we could not be more excited when Charleston designer, Lindsey Carter of Troubadour Clothing’s designs graced the cover of the recent Anthropologie catalog! Celebrities such as Mindy Kaling and Taraji P. Henson have worn Troubadour (follow her on Instagram to see the dets), and Fashion bloggers such as Blair Eadie Bee of Atlantic-Pacific, Chassity Evans of Look Linger Love, and Caitlin Kruse of Style Within Reach frequently feature her designs.  You can also find collection pieces on Rent the Runway. Today we’re showing you some of our favorite pieces and a little convo we had with Lindsey.

I personally ran to Anthro to purchase this top (you can too, here):

ogie come about; and how did you feel when you saw your piece on the cover of their catalog?
It was amazing!! I actually knew for 2 months previous and had to keep it to myself. I started to leak it to people because I was so excited about it, then got nervous that they could have changed the cover last minute. So when it came it was a mix of pure happiness and excitement with a side of relief! Plus I loved the cover photo, it was almost like an extension of the brand.

How does Charleston itself or your surroundings inspire your design?
I would say that living in a coastal city inspires me to design for a warmer climate year round, which means I gravitate towards designing Spring and Summer more. I love color prints, happy florals, graphic stripes and artsy prints. Some of those elements can be hard to bring into a Fall color palette.
How did the collaboration with Anthropol

What is your biggest career accomplishment to date?
I think there are some really amazing things in store for the brand for the remainder of the year, but highlights are the Anthropologie cover, Blair Eadie Bee wearing Troubadour, and our volume growth this year. I have also really loved the Rent the Runway business, because girls are able to rent our dress and then tag us in photos and instagram. Its so lovely to see how people are wearing the brand and their positive feedback. We are also working on a collaboration with Rebecca Atwood for a home book that will be released next year.

Have you ever done any wedding designs for friends/family?
I designed and sewed my own wedding dress! And actually, I found the process so stressful that I swore I wouldn’t get into doing it for other people. It is such a special occasion gown that the pressure to make every last stitch perfect is so intense. I can laugh about how stressful it was for me now, but I learned appreciation for designers who do bridal because they are able to take that pressure on.

I am going to brag on two of my upcoming brides today. These best friends who met as roommates at Brown University immediately knew they would be life long business partners. Nedenia had a strong passion for design and Stephanie had the drive to take the business side and run with it. Not only that, but they are BOTH getting married this year, and we get to work with two dream brides!  And yes, they are designing their own dresses as well as their bridesmaids dresses so the debut of their bridal line naturally makes sense.

Their line, DEE HUTTON is a made-to-order fashion line whose modern take on couture allows you to customize separates, cocktail dresses, and evening gowns by specifying color, fabric, trim, and embellishments. And, they just launched their first bridal collection last week.

I’m obsessing over the shorty with the python straps, I mean!  Employing clean, modern lines, luxe silks and french lace, the collection features everything from classic gowns with yards of train to sexy party dresses and sleek separates. DEE HUTTON Bridal offers custom made to order, allowing clients to choose color, fabric and fit variations. Couture creations are also offered, allowing the client to collaborate on an exclusive, highly personal made to measure creation.

This is a game changer for brides, as made to order DEE HUTTON Bridal takes only one month from order to delivery, instead of the typical 6 month lead time of many other houses, allowing brides with less time, more options. DEE HUTTON is available only by trunk shows nationwide and by appointment in their Union Square showroom, thus exclusivity is guaranteed. Everything is produced in New York City. Their regular line is also fantastic for engagement parties and rehearsal dinners!
