Greenberg white dinner jacket

You see and hear so much about fashions for the Bride, Bridesmaids, and Mother of the Bride that it may seem that the groom is often overshadowed. Of course all eyes on him as well (people always look to see the look on his face when the bride is walking down the aisle ) and he is in all of the photos too!  There are many options for the men out there, these are just some that our grooms have sported over the years. Since we are considered a “coastal climate” and here in the South we like our formality and traditions when called for, we see white dinner jackets quite often. White dinner jackets came to be when gentlemen in warmer climates wanted an alternative to the heavy dark tuxedo jackets.

“Evening Dress” is considered the most formal attire and only appropriate for evening weddings beginning at 6pm or later.

A dark gray suite with a coordinating tie is the perfect solution for those not wanting black tie. Get a custom tailored suit, though, as a nod to the formality of the occasion.

Lightweight grey suits are a great consideration for summer affairs outdoors or near the water.

You can’t go wrong with a  classic formal tuxedo, but customize with accessories. The wedding party above sporting coordinating Ralph Lauren loafers. And, Brackish Bowties have become a statement piece for Southern grooms.

For weddings with a noteable color palette, our grooms have opted to gift ties to their wedding party in patterns or colors that match…

“White Tie” affairs call for a strict dress code of a formal tuxedo (usually a waistcoat) with a white cotton bowtie.  There are very specific guidelines on “white tie”, so make sure to research those to make sure you hit all of the proper notes.  We like this guide.

Finally, For Sanjay Gupta’s Indian nuptials full traditional Hindu attire was adorned- he even rode in on a white horse (a white elephant wasn’t allowed at the venue!)

Grey ghost basket

Now that Spring is in full swing, the party season is too. At our recent trunk show, I had a couple of people ask what my favorite hostess gifts were, so today I’m sharing some ideas for you!

The above idea would be perfect if you have been invited to stay as a guest in someone’s home. A beautiful basket full of goodies (especially ones local to your hometown). Our basket includes Grey Ghost cookies (with custom Lettered Olive labels), a Candlefish candle, a bottle of bubbles, and a turkish towel (some of my favorites are here).

Our oyster shell salt and pepper cellars have been hugely popular and are back in stock. Wrapped in a pretty package, they make for an unexpected gift- you never knew you needed them, but you will use them at all your dinner parties!

I’m a huge fan of linen cocktail napkins, and you can never go wrong with gifting them. They make for a great completion to just a bottle of wine or liquor, and having them embroidered with something custom makes them meaningful also! Lettered Olive can make any design you wish.

Also, as a long time admirer of paper goods, a set of letterpress cards, a notepad featuring a customized or emblem that appeals to the hostess, or letterpressed recipe cards (which could be partnered with bottle of wine as a wine notes pad) would all be things I would be thrilled to receive… All by Lettered Olive.

Another entertaining must have is a nice cutting board. These are handcarved and made in my hometown of Camden, SC by Nicholas Blake.

We love learning about new ideas- what are some of your favorite hostess gifts? Leave a comment and let us know!

I personally love sleeves on a wedding dress- when I married many moons ago, I had cap sleeves on my classic Amsale gown… But, I’m beyond thrilled to see them making a comeback with some of my brides.  Today, we are sharing some of our pretty favorites that may inspire some of you while dress shopping… Love the lace neckline that is carried down into sleeves on this Oscar de le Renta gown.

Here, Monique Lhuillier incorporates different but complimentary lace patterns on the  high neckline and full sleeves on this ensemble.

Here, our bride wore a Chantilly-lace gown and jacket, custom-designed by Nardos Imam. She took the lace-overlay jacket off for dinner and the first dances. And the lace tradition for a wedding day didn’t stop there…a lace hankie made from her maternal grandmother’s wedding gown was pinned under the bottom of her gown to serve as the “something old” .

This bride had simple sleeves added to her Amsale gown for a more formal feel for her formal at home wedding in Charleston, SC.

If you have your heart set on a different look for the ceremony gown, think about something like this little number for your second dress or your going away – by Monique Lhuillier…
