Tara Guerard Soiree by Corbin Gurkin

Today, our sweet bride Annie shares her top tips on the planning process. Annie and Davis wanted a fun and seamless wedding weekend for their guests- Mission Accomplished!

What was your favorite part of planning your wedding?

Working with Tara and her amazing team.  I started interning in the event industry when I was a sophomore in College; first in Dallas, then in NYC, and after graduating went to work in events in both NYC and LA for almost 6 years. I had always followed Tara and her work, so when I first spoke with her, I felt like I was speaking with a celeb. I was obsessed with everything she had done before, and couldn’t wait to see how she would pull together an event unique to Davis and I. I loved pulling inspiration for them and I really loved working on the invitation! I currently work in the custom stationery industry. Also, I loved the welcome boxes… people are still talking about them today!

What was the biggest challenge during the planning process?

Making up my mind and letting go so that Tara could do her thing. I knew she would do an amazing job, but working in the events industry makes you a little OCD… so I had a hard time letting go. We also had Soiree coordinate the rehearsal dinner which really made the weekend mesh so well.

What do you miss the most now that it is over?

Looking back, it was one of the best parties we had ever attended, and it’s still hard to believe it was our wedding. Everything I had dreamed of for so long became a reality in that evening. I would relive that night over and over if I could!

What is the moment that when you think back on your wedding you remember the most?

Our band was AMAZING – Simply Irresistible  – so dancing on stage with them and looking down on all our favorite people having an amazing time was one of the best moments. Also, when we first walked into the room upstairs, I was speechless. The custom navy and white geometric dance floor and the boxed woods on the stage made a huge impact and were two of my favorite things. Also, our honeymoon was a surprise, and Davis ended up telling me where we were going during the first dance. It was amazing!! One of my favorite pictures was taken the second he told me, and it brings back that feeling every time I look at it!

Is there anything you would do over and what?  Would you wear the same dress?

It really was as close to perfect as could be. It was the perfect weekend, and we had the best time. It still doesn’t feel real sometimes! I would absolutely wear the same dress (even though i was SO HOT before the ceremony), and I loved the dress I left it. I wish I had changed into my leaving dress earlier, but we were having too much fun to stop!

Can you please give a brief description of your engagement?

Davis and I lived in Los Angeles, California for two years together, and he purposed on our last night in Cali – before moving back to Charlotte. He booked the best hotel room in my absolute favorite boutique hotel in Santa Monica (Shutters on the Beach), and ended up purposing on the balcony at sunset (unreal views!!). It was perfection, and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. The next morning we got up to start our drive back across the country… it gave us plenty of time to call and tell everyone the story!

Annie and Davis were married on September 6, 2014 at First Scots Presbyterian with a reception at Hibernian Hall in Charleston, SC.  Corbin Gurkin is responsible for the beautiful imagery.

Tara Guerard Soiree by Perry Vaile We are so excited to share images from this stunning soiree shot by Perry Vaile photography. And, thank you to the Over The Moon Blog for their recent feature.  We loved loved loved working with this amazing and fun couple on their wedding last year at Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton, SC.  The laid back vibe of the couple was translated into a elegant but chill affair for their friends and family.

The welcome gift by Palmetto Bluff and Soiree included homemade biscuits, butter, and jam, and homemade granola! A perfect little breakfast in bed for the guest cottages.

We found this amazing marble paper that the bride loved as well, so we had fun finding different ways incorporating it throughout the wedding- kind of like a treasure hunt. Here, they line the pages of the ceremony programs by Lettered Olive.

How amazing is this mother of the bride in her Kate McDonald dress? Stunning!

The Chapel on site at Palmetto Bluff is a sweet site on it’s own, but we added a lovely photo backdrop for the vows by mimicking the arch of the window with greenery and simple flowers.

Local gospel accapella group, the Plantation Singers provided music for cocktail hour  on the lawn overlooking the May River.

You know how we love to design bars using different fabrics, or materials to make for a interesting installation. Thick lemon leaf creates a natural feel but statement piece for guests.

Dinner was held under a sail cloth tent with a mixture of long and square tables.

One of my favorite design elements to the dinner tables were the clipboards containing the vellum calligraphied menus and place cards backed with the marbled paper.

We wrapped glass candle cylinders with the marbled paper and had our calligrapher paint on the table numbers in metallic gold.

Guests moved into the ballroom after dinner for a full on dance party.

We created sweet little seating spots on the porch outside the ballroom for those guests that wanted a quiet retreat from the action inside.

After a quick change into a shorty jumpsuit, the couple departed by sparkler send off on a tandem bicycle back to their cottage!  Congratulations Caroline and Wyatt!

Circa 1886

Charleston was busy and bustling this weekend with the annual Wine and Food Festival. We were honored to work with The Scout Guide on an intimate luncheon where we shared some of our entertaining tips and enjoyed a delicious menu by Circa 1886 Restaurant. Thank to you all who came!

Circa 1886 luncheon

The private room at Circa 1886 recently underwent an updating and it’s lovely!  I can see it being one of our new favorite spots for bridal luncheons, and their food is always outstanding.

Circa 1886 and Tara Guerard luncheon

We stacked colorful Scout guides and held them up with bookends-  something you could easily replicate by gathering pieces found around the house! You could use vintage books or a mixture of china pieces, etc.

Circa 1186 luncheon

Centerpieces were gold urns full of local camelias- a quick and easy centerpiece that you can put together with any flowering shrubs you may have in your yard- azaleas, gardenias, hydrangeas, etc. or you can even use clusters of greenery.  I used an Oasis floral brick to hold the blooms in place and keep them lush.

Lettered Olive printed our lovely gold foil menu cards with a patterned velvet backer.

Favors

Guests took home our Lettered Olive letterpressed surcie tags (you can get yours here)

rose

We are having brides requesting Rose on their bars regularly now, which I love. It’s so easy to drink and pretty for weddings too. AIX provided delicious rose for the luncheon…

tara and vitner

Eric Kurver, the actual Vintner, joined us all the way from Provence… Can’t wait to visit the vineyard over there someday!

Circa 1886 also served up a speciality cocktail from our other sponsor, Tanqueray,  and we’re sharing the recipe!

 “Oughta Not”

1oz Tanqueray 10

1/4 oz Cointreau

1/4 oz Domaine Canton

1/4 oz lemon juice

1/4 oz plum flavored drinking vinegar
