I have known this bride since she was little (I used to babysit for her!) and we did her older sister’s wedding many years ago, so this was a special wedding for us.  The bride wore a dress that her great grandmother had worn so many years ago and was stored in the attic, there were a few minor adjustments made, but it’s amazing how the condition withstood the test of time That was really our inspiration behind all of the vintage touches, while adding in some modern freshness. All photos from Gayle Brooker, printed items from Lettered Olive.

We are usually blessed with a few truly perfect Saturdays in October here in Charleston, and this was one of them, so we were so lucky to play up the “secret garden” feel with seating vignettes throughout the garden at the Governor Thomas Bennett House. Food stations were also scattered throughout the garden encouraging guests to mingle throughout.

Since the wedding offered just beer and wine we wanted to make sure to pay some special attention there, so Lettered Olive designed custom wine labels and we affixed to every wine bottle (also used as part of the bar display)

I think there is something so special about couples who honor their anniversaries with traditional gifts, or their version the traditions.

Here are some of our ideas for years 1-5 on how to honor these traditions in new and fun ways.

1st Anniversary- Paper. How about plane tickets to a favorite destination (or delayed honeymoon spot) or concert tickets to a favorite musician?  You can’t go wrong with something memorable from your wedding framed. Or, make it official and get beautiful letterpress gift tags or enclosure cards with your new last name or monogram from Taigan’s Lettered Olive Collection.

2nd Anniversary- Cotton. A new set of luxury sheets or towels. We love these from Matouk at Neiman Marcus (and they are on sale!). Or something simple like the Lewis Cocktail Bag and Mallet for your home bar. Even matching monogramed bath robes made from Turkish “cotton” would be so nice!

3rd Anniversary- Leather.  I love love love these leather and maple Iphone cases from Grovemade.

4th Anniversary- Flowers. Maybe you have a big landscaping project at a new home that you’ve been putting off that you could invest in (and do together). Try something different and adopt an olive tree!  You can each enjoy the oils that will come over the years, or use for entertaining together! Nudo Adopt selects ones in Italy for you. Or, it would be lovely to receive a bottle of your favorite perfume (there are many ways to interpret each item).

5th Anniversary- Wood. Concave Cutting Boards are made here in Charleston, and have a unique design that allow the meat to rest in their own juices so they don’t dry out- genius! I know someone who got their husband a chord of firewood for a November anniversary.

This beachfront beauty took place at the amazing Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, SC. Glam gold accents dot the seafoam and teal greens taken from the bride’s favorite Van Gogh painting.  Lettered Olive did all of the pretty paper, wedding cakes are from Jim Smeal, and Liz Banfield captured everything.
