We have been waiting and waiting to get this sweet intimate wedding we did at Palmetto Bluff out to you. Liz Banfield shot this punchy fall affair featuring lots of texture and color, and of course we loved the sweet French Bulldog fur baby that the couple had to include in their big day, so adorable.

I love when brides want to carry a colorful bouquet…Pale pinks and apricots in blooms like tulips, ranunculus, scabiaosa, roses, stock, and gerber daisies were mixed with natural elements like succulents to make for gardeny gathering for our laid back bride.

Bridesmaids and groomsmen were swathed in graphite grey… The warmer tone of this grey was a nice compliment to the peachier palette. I’m liking this look for the ring bearers, a classic navy blazer, crisp white dress shirt, and blue dress pants. Appropriate for this age group.

Lettered Olive designed all of the classicaly designed printed pieces. The save the dates featured die cut edging, and an image of the Palmetto Bluff oak trees draped in spanish moss. The pale pink envelopes with the black calligraphy was just a small twist on tradition that paid off. The letterpress invitations featured our custom wedding monogram. Guests were welcomed with custom printed map totes of of the resort filled with all branded goodies, of course. Ceremony programs were die cut in fashion of Southern fans- due to the size of the quaint chapel some guests would be seated outside and October is still quite warm here in the South. Heel Savers were also offered to protect ladies’ shoes from sinking into the lawn. And leading the way down the aisle were the handsome little guys carrying our custom Here Comes the Bride flags.

As a treat to the guests seated on the lawn of the chapel, a local gospel choir serenaded the couple as they exited the church as husband and wife. Aren’t the pink agate slates so stunning with hand written calligraphy as our wedding signage???? Baskets of flip flops were placed around the dance floor for guests wanting some relief before dancing…

Because of the sail cloth tent which is different than some of the frame tents we typically use, swaths of gold, pinks, and peach add some dimension and color to the ceiling and brighten up the more neutral design throughout the lounge tent. A large round bar with a copper top, displayed glassware, and live greenery made a fun focal point in the tent. Love a round, accessible from all sides, means no lines! And, you are able to hide all of the bottles for a decluttered design.

The ruins on the grounds make for one of our favorite backdrops- glowing with candle lanterns, guests danced in the lounge as the sun went down.

Cake was passed on lovely plates with printed napkins to guests in the dancing tent along with mini Kahlua milkshakes… Sparklers were passed out with custom printed matchbooks by Lettered Olive for the send off… The happy couple drove off into the night after the “Best Day Ever”… You can see more of this wedding on Inside Weddings.

A Brunch Wedding in Savannah

We are fortunate that living in the South allows us to do winter weddings with almost as much ease as Spring weddings (it’s 60+ here in Charleston today!). When you have a back drop as graceful and stunning as the Ford Planation in Savannah, Georgia, you get year round spectacular events! For this Sunday brunch wedding, our bride and groom opted for a chic blue and white toile as the pattern du jour. The toile was worked into everything from the invitations to the umbrellas, table linens, and even tray liners. Winter white peonies and ranunculus were mixed with festive greens for centerpieces and bouquets which set a romantic mood and the cake was topped with seasonal fruit to finish it off. Of course there were plenty of personal touches as well. Our bride wore a vintage family veil, and received a beautiful bracelet to wear that day as a gift from the groom. The bride’s mother made homemade banana pecan bride and peach chutney which we packaged with custom designed tags by Lettered Olive and guests received as their welcome gift.

Set under live oaks and overlooking the river, the wedding ceremony was anchored by a simple greenery covered chuppa. Guests then joined the couple on the back lawn of the Plantation for an al fresco brunch reception.

The menu consisted of favorite Southern brunch delicacies with a twist, such as Quail and Grits -alongside Shrimp and Grits, Ford Eggs Benedict, as well as a Bloody Mary Station with pickled veggies and Artillery Punch (a famous Savannah celebratory cocktail). One long table topped with umbrellas in the signature pattern for shade allowed for guests to mingle easily. The bride hand wrote notes to all of her guests thanking them for being there, which also doubled as place cards.

As they said their goodbyes, guests tossed white rose petals out of paper cones made from the blue and white toile pattern while the couple drove off in a classic black vintage car. This winter wedding couldn’t have been more perfect!

Going To the Chapel

We have shared several of our favorite outdoor ceremony set ups with you, but realized how pretty that many of the churches we have been lucky enough to work with are so lovely too. Yes, we don’t always have as much freedom to add design elements as we would outside, but sometimes the buildings themselves have pretty elements that can be recreated. Just like the wood elements in this chapel on Sea Island, GA. The antique hardwood floors and ceiling beams added just enough rustic to this formal affair.

I have a certain affinity for this church, since it’s the church in Charleston that my family attends, St. Philip’s. This is a centuries old church has grand details like marble floors, a stained glass picture window, and wooden balcony box seating. The wrought iron gates outside are just asking for gorgeous greenery and blooms.

One of my other very favorites in Charleston is the French Huguenot Church. It’s an intimate space, so guests will get to really be a part of the ceremony, and the architecture is stunning. They do allow weddings of visitors and non members, making it ulitmately appealing for many of our destination clients.

This church in San Antonio, Texas featured a grand gothic stone front, making it lovely for portraits of the bride and groom.

The chapel at Palmetto Bluff is everything..Truly special and serene. We love to add gracious touches to the front entrance, and of course soften the inside.

This church in the Hamptons, had that true New England feel with the shingled exterior and woody gardens. The interior boasted super details like a domed penny tiled ceiling windows, gorgeous stained glass, and vintage lighting.
