Tara Guerard Soiree wedding by Corbin Gurkin

As 2015 comes to an end, I’m reflecting on what can only be described as an amazing year. Amazing clients, amazing venues and locations, amazing photographers, and amazing feats performed by the Soirettes. I’m sharing a little snippett or two from each wedding and look forward to what 2016 brings! Our first photo is from a wedding in Aspen, Colorado shot by Corbin Gurkin.  I truly appreciate the change in scenery that the mountain backdrop offered us, and we were able to embrace different design elements that we are often reinventing at our coastal venues.

This fun, funny, and vivacious couple had a truly reflective and personal wedding at Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton, SC. There are so many charming details at this venue alone and throw in a couple full of personality and it made for a perfectly charming event. We’ll be featuring more from this wedding shot by Perry Vaile in the new year on a Wedding Wednesday.

Liz Banfield joined us for this simply elegant affair in Sea Island, Ga. An iconically classic location lent beautiful scenery to this sweet couple as they celebrated with friends and family. We always love being at Sea Island.

A celebration at the brides’ family home in Greenville, SC was a fabulous way to start off the year. I can’t wait to share more of this wedding when we are able to, Corbin’s photos are amazing as always.

Brief showers during a cocktail hour provided for some sweet shots by Elizabeth Messina. This affair overlooking the water at Lowndes Grove Plantation included a satellite bar on a deep water dock on the Ashley River.

This bride (one half of design house Dee Hutton) designed and created her own wedding dress. With a flair for the dramatic, a fitting fete at Fenwick Plantation outside of Charleston was the perfect place for this dress to make it’s debut. Look out for a feature on this wedding in Brides Magazine in the new year.

Tara Guerard Soiree by Liz Banfield

A lot of our brides and photographers that decide to work together on their wedding day don’t live in the same cities.  So, that means bridal “portraits” often take place on the wedding day usually before the ceremony.  I love the different styles from traditional to playful that our photographers capture reflecting each brides’ individual personality. Sharing some of my favorite shots today. Like, this one shot as the bride was watching from the inside of the house at Drayton Hall as the guests gathered under the oak tree where the ceremony was to take place.  Photo by Liz Banfield.

Liz Banfield also captured this moment of our bride descending the staircase in her family home after getting ready in her childhood bedroom. She was on her way to walking out the front door down the aisle to meet her groom.

The second floor balcony at Lowndes Grove Plantation is a perfect spot for brides to await the beginning of the ceremony and makes for an amazing and perfectly gracious backdrop for a portrait. Photo by Liz Banfield.

I love this sweet moment caught by Corbin Gurkin, just a close shot that reflects the pure emotion on the bride’s face.

Here, the bride and Liz Banfield let the surroundings of the wedding venue be a part of the portrait. You’d never guess that if you flipped the photographer around to capture the bride from the other side you’d see the bans of the Ashley River scattered with oak trees and Spanish Moss.

Sometimes a portrait is an “accident” in that this bride was walking to a spot for photographer Adrienne Page to take a few shots, but the lighting and moment as Adrienne snapped this image just worked out.

This image by Adrienne Page looks as if it could have been taken years and years ago… and will remain that way as this image gets passed down for generations.

Such a sweet image of this bride, truly joyful on her wedding day!  Image by Corbin Gurkin.

Tara Guerard Interiors by Corbin Gurkin

Today, we are revisiting this interior project we worked on for a client restoring a historic home in downtown Charleston. It was featured on SMP Living and shot by Corbin Gurkin.

The home belongs to a single father with two teenage daughters, so it needed to be inviting for entertaining guests, but with a delicate mix of antiques and masculine touches.

These Chinese silk screens were a major score at a local antique store, esp. with the full set fully intact!

There were several pieces of family furniture that we wanted to use, so we went through placing that all first and then seeing where we needed to fill in, refinish, or recover.

The pop of color in this painting (found locally at Antiques of South Windermere) lends a brightness to the formal living room already filled with natural light, while somehow still remaining neutral.

My favorite design piece in this kitchen is the reclaimed butcher wood top on the island.

The armoire storage piece has a massive amount of storage but hides everything like a piece of artwork.

We loved working with our clients two daughters on their rooms as if they were the clients!  They chose their paint colors and approved many of the pieces that ended up in the space. The eldest daughter wanted something pretty but sophisticated enough to grow with her as she finishes high school and moves onto college.

The younger daughter, a self proclaimed “tomboy”, wanted something a bit more modern and simple.

A budget tip we employed that paid off in spades was laying subway tile that is typically budget friendly on the vertical to give it a more custom look.

I really love how these pocked doors with a curved casing turned out.

Enjoying a piazza is such a thread of Charleston living. Having low maintenance, comfortable, and function furniture is must!
