Guide to Fall Flowers

Considering today is the first day of fall, and since we always create custom bouquets for our Soirée brides, we thought it would be fun to share a few of our favorite flowers for the season. Now you can get most flowers anytime of year with greenhouses and Fedex, but obviously some of the lushest blooms can be found when they’re growing at their peak.

dahlias cafe au lait

Dahlias are at the end of their growing season (June through October), but we wanted to take a minute to highlight the beautiful “Cafe au Lait Dahlia” that is fast becoming one of the most popular flowers for brides. The lush blossoms can grow to be as big as a dinner plate giving them the nickname “Dinnerplate Dahlias,” and many brides are finding them a more affordable alternative to peonies.

dark red peonies

Speaking of peonies, you can’t beat the burgundy peonies (sometimes called “Buckeye Belle” peonies) that start to become available in the fall. Their rich red color is perfect for autumn arrangements. (image source)

camellia branches

And lastly, the camellia branches that you find in the fall are perfect for filling in arrangements or bouquets. We also love the idea of using unripe figs on the branches (also available this time of year) as additional greenery.
